KUNSTY Unleashes Radical Art & Queer Cabaret at Southbank Centre
Get ready, London! The Southbank Centre is dropping a brand new event series this autumn, and it's called KUNSTY – named after the German word for art, because, well, it really is art, but not as you know it. This isn't your grandma's gallery visit; KUNSTY is all about pushing boundaries, bringing independent British artists to the forefront with a thrilling mix of dance, live art, and cabaret that promises London, UK, and world premieres.
Running from 5-8 November 2025, KUNSTY transforms the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer into a late-night cabaret lounge, hosting a lineup that's as diverse as it is dazzling. Dive into the urgent topic of climate change with South Korean choreographer Sung Im Her's “1 Degree Celsius,” where seven dancers move to a score created from rising temperature data – talk about immersive! Then, feel the heat with “Cabrolé!”, a flamenco-inspired queer cabaret that celebrates the dance form's roots in marginalized communities, promising a night of joyous rebellion and self-expression, glitter included.
The international flavour continues with Justin Talplacido Shoulder's “ANITO,” reimagining early Filipino myths through puppetry, dance, and experimental electronic music, heavily influenced by Sydney’s underground queer club scene. For a dystopian twist, “Bullyache: WHO HURT YOU?” stars legendary drag artist and pianist Barbs as a fading performer clinging to her dreams. And don't miss the London premiere of Harry Clayton-Wright's “Mr Blackpool's Seaside Spectacular,” an end-of-the-pier show set at the end of the world, serving up lurid technicolor and garish spectacle. It’s a wild ride of creativity, community, and unforgettable performances!
